There are so many firms that provide financial advice that it is hard to distinguish one firm from another.
But choosing a financial adviser can be one of the most important decisions in your life and so you should really do your research carefully and be sure about who you want to work with.
Almost anyone can and will give advice but getting the right advice from the right source is sometimes harder than it seems.
Many of our clients tell us that they were looking for much of the following when looking for a financial adviser.
An Ethical Firm – an adviser that they can trust who always puts the clients’ interests above their own.
An Independent Firm – an adviser who will give objective advice with no sales pitches or product ties.
A Comprehensive Firm – an adviser who will look at the whole financial picture and create and arrange a comprehensive plan across all aspects of financial life.
An Experienced Firm – an adviser who has achieved the highest qualifications and who strives to continually advance their knowledge to better help their clients.
A Responsive Firm – an adviser who knows you personally and who sees and speaks to you personally whenever there is a need.
An Insightful Firm – an adviser who takes on the responsibility of building professional portfolios that adapt with changing markets and one which has meaningful processes and protocols in place to manage clients affairs with care and commitment.
A Cost Competitive Firm – an adviser who knows the value of advice and not the value of what can be charged and whose fees are more than competitive across the industry.
Beware of advisers who contact you through websites which sell your details to the highest bidder, as slick as their marketing seems, this is something which happens too much and is not really careful research on your part.
We understand it is a big decision to trust someone with your investments and financial decisions and we want to provide you with all the information you need to make the right choices so please get in touch with us and we can start a conversation.
Edwin Snapper, the Principal of Veracity Financial Planning is a Chartered Financial Adviser and also a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society, he is also an accredited member of the highly regarded Society of Later Life Advisers (Solla).
The SOLLA accreditation (Society of Later Life Advisers) is the most highly recognised accreditation for those requiring advice in later life and Edwin is one of the few Independent Financial Advisers in Nottingham and the East Midlands with this accreditation.
We are however equally comfortable and qualified in advising young and old, private clients and corporate clients.
We are a small bespoke Independent Financial Advice firm (IFA) with offices in Woodthorpe Nottingham offering financial advice and mortgage advice in the surrounding areas of Nottinghamshire, Newark, Grantham, Lincoln, Sheffield, Leicester and Derby.
Our aim is to offer clear, simple, sensible advice and an excellent, open and shared ongoing process of advice and life planning, with very competitive and transparent fees and a highly personalised service to all our clients across Nottingham and the areas surrounding Nottinghamshire and across the East Midlands.
Our advice includes Pensions, Investments, Mortgages, Life Insurance, Critical Illness, Income Protection, Private Medical Insurance, Equity Release, Long term care
Our Independent Financial Advisers and Independent Mortgage Advisers are always happy to meet at our clients' preferred location and time, and to have detailed initial discussions with no obligation.
Financial advice fees have traditional set structures and we believe our Pension and Investment Advice Fees are set to one of the lowest structures that you will find in the industry, at an initial fee of 1% (capped at investments over £250,000, so our maximum initial fee is £2,500) plus a servicing fee of 0.5% of the fund value per year (capped above £600,000, therefore our maximum ongoing charge is £250 per month) for ongoing investment advice, which includes portfolio and fund research, fund switching, administration, reporting and forecasting,
All our fees are clearly available to see on our website.
If you are looking for investment or pension advice or need advice on your mortgage or an equity release or life insurance advice and have never used the services of an IFA you will probably be asking yourself a few questions about what to expect..... like.....
How will an IFA be able to help me with what I want to do?
How much will it cost and is it worth it?
Can I trust someone else with all my sensitive, personal and financial information?
These are all sensible questions and all IFAs will be sensitive to these issues.
However it is sometimes complicated for people to understand the important differences between financial adviser firms and what they offer.
The following is our unbiased overview of what we believe everyone should understand when looking for advice, broken down into the 4 main areas you should understand but if you would like to discuss this with us in more detail, we would welcome you to contact us for a chat.
1; The authority & regulation of Investment and Pension advisers.
2. The different types of charging structures of IFA's
3: The different types and approaches of advisers.
4: The varying types of propositions from IFA’s.
Authority of Adviser
All authorised IFA's are regulated by the FCA (The Financial Conduct Authority) which monitors and regulates the way a firm conducts its business, also the firm will hold a 'data protection licence' which controls how your personal information is used.
Anyone who purports to be an adviser but is not on the FCA list of authorised advisers (The financial services register) is not regulated and therefore will not have the protections put in place by the government to protect a client from inappropriate advice.
Firstly all authorised advisers must have the relevant qualification to be regulated by the FCA.
The minimum qualification is Diploma and the higher qualification is Chartered.
This purely means that a Chartered adviser has done more study and taken more exams than a diploma adviser, it does not necessarily mean that he/she has more experience that others may have.
Our financial advice service starts and continues with a shared and bespoke "fact find". It builds up the history of your investments on paper, investment amounts and dates, annual fund values, annual net growth figures compared to a benchmark for each year invested. It is a simple translation of all the complex information that financial product providers send to you, so that you can understand what your historical position has been, what your current position is and how that translates into an understandable future forecast.
This document is updated and shared regularly to reflect your financial circumstances and objectives, it also keeps you informed of the current and historic net performance of your financial assets alongside benchmark comparisons in an agreed format with agreed references.
This shared document gives details of:
